This scene pretty much encapsulates one of my very favourite things about Warehouse 13: the acknowledgement that platonic relationships can be the most important and fulfilling relationships in your life.

just thinkin’ about things
you know what it is that bothers me most about boring/cold/emotionless aromantic characters, either in headcanons or “representation”?
…they don’t even make very much sense to me
i guess people go like “ah, they don’t experience one kind of feeling (romantic feelings) strongly, they must be more subdued or control their emotions or something”
but in my own experience as an aromantic i literally do the opposite?
like i get that i don’t do something a lot of other people do, but it’s not out of repressing feelings or having a more stoic emotional threshold. it actually kind of causes the opposite — i gush and obsess and babble about my own passions excessively, because that’s totally where my capability to love gets “redirected”. i pour ridiculous amounts of myself into subjects i enjoy because it seems like the logical place for me to put them — beyond platonic feelings, my interests are what make me me
and those are always my favorite aro interpretations and headcanons? characters that really clearly adore something and just pour so much of themselves into being passionate about it
give me aro Milo Thatch, and aro Luke Skywalker, and an aro Doctor and aro Charlie Weasley and aro Newt Geiszler and aro Enjolras and passionate aros in general
“if you’re aromantic, what do you love?” — linguistics! the Jedi Order! the intricacy of the universe! dragons! kaiju! FRANCE!
passionate aros are my very favorite thing
Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week Fandom Challenge
Day 1: A character you headcanon as aromantic and on the asexual spectrum: These are all of the aromantic/asexual spectrum headcanons that have been submitted to/reblogged by acesinspace.
Links to headcanon posts: Luke, Chewie, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, Luminara, Zeb, Yoda, Mace, Palpatine, Mother Talzin, Mon Mothma, Jango, clones, Talos, Mira
raleigh and yancy = bond between siblings
herc and chuck = bond between parent & child
aleksis and sasha = bond between lovers
mako and raleigh = bond between friends
what’s great about pacific rim is how it shows all these relationships are equal in power, that there isn’t anything intrinsically superior in the strength of the bond regarding the type of relation, just the people involved. in a world where romantic relationships often get more attention than platonic or familial ones, i really liked that touch.
strings-of-a-different-nature:
hey so i’d thought i’d make a little post making it known that there are Google Docs in existence collecting quotes in support of asexual and aromantic interpretations of the Doctor, in case anyone was interested in checking them out!
✗ Aromantic Awareness Week Fandom ChallengeDay 7: A queerplatonic ship you like
↳ the 12th Doctor & the Mistress
Generally speaking, I think Gallifreyans as a species are asexual but romantic orientation varies. And from what we’ve seen of Capaldi’s Doctor so far, I’m quite fond of an aro ace reading of his character. So I was watching Death in Heaven with bated breath as the qp relationship between him and this new incarnation of the Master began to unfold.
It seemed like DiH took great pains to stress the past friendship between the Doctor and the Master. Despite her earlier flirtation with calling the Doctor her “boyfriend,” when the tension between them finally came to a head, Missy’s raw admission that she needed her friend back struck me as unbearably genuine. And later on, when the Doctor kissed her, it didn’t feel quite like a romantic or sexual gesture or even a power play like the kiss in Dark Water. It was an expression of sincere and honest gratitude, a gesture that really demonstrated the depth of the connection between the two of them.
So it’s very easy for me to do a qp reading of this relationship. The Doctor and the Master have always hovered in some sort of limbo between platonic, romantic and outright antagonistic. For a bond that evolved out of a friendship too strong to be platonic, and grew into a twisted commitment bordering on romantic… well, I’m going to go ahead and call it as queerplatonic. It is at once a little of both and yet, not really either. But they keep coming back to this, circling each other like wolves or pig bears or comets in the night sky. And to be honest, that’s just the way I like it.
“I need my friend back.”
“Because love is not an emotion; love is a promise.”
